This year’s edition saw the participation of 452 companies with 1207 products. Tuscan wine holds the record of designations of origin with 36 DOC and 5 DOCG. 11 thousand out of 36 thousand wine farms specialize in the production of quality wines destined to the domestic and international markets. Exports for the year 2008 suffered a slight decline due to difficulties with emerging markets, in particular for the exports of red wine to India and Russia.
On the contrary, China has registered an increase of 24 percent on red wine, which exceeds the absolute values of the Russian market, and a slight increase for white wine, which stagnates on all other markets. The Japanese market has registered excellent wine sales with 7.5 percent in value and 14 percent in quantity.
The US market suffered the 2008 commercial blockage, therefore a contraction of 1.1 percent in value was recorded, although the quantity sold increased slightly.
The contraction of the German and Northern European markets remain unvaried, particularly in Denmark, which drove exports during the last few years. This commercial framework emphasizes the importance for Tuscany to maintain high product quality and engage in sensible marketing strategies.
