Sting in Tuscany: Farmer and Winemaker

sting-wine-palagio-tuscanyFor more than ten years Sting has been living in Tuscany from where not only he continues his artistic activity, but has also created his activity as a farmer and wine producer. Like other artists he has chosen Tuscany as his home, but more than others he built a strong relationship with this land and its community. Maybe for this reason the academy of Fine Arts in Florence included him among the 2009 “Academicians of Honour“, delivering the prize to Sting at David’s feet in the Galleria dell’Accademia. Sting said that in Tuscany “are the roots of civil life. It was in this land that we jumped out of the dark ages to leap into the future, and we must keep on rising.”

Last march Sting landed in Florence with these words “Since January I have toured the world once and a half. When yesterday I landed in Florence, I sighed with relief. I’m home, I said to myself. I love this place because nature provides food for thought, and enlivens my artistic soul”. These were the first words of Sting in Figline Valdarno.

At a farming sustainability meeting, after having dismissed his rock star clothes, Sting presented himself as a “star farmer“: thick beard and love for his land, the same one where he lives on today, as he said himself during the evening. “I’m a farmer to treat and feed the land, not to spoil it” he said recalling his commitment to promoting organic agriculture. “I felt a duty to feed my family with genuine quality products in a healthy environment – he confessed – and with this activity in Tuscany I try to help myself and who I am close to to live better in a natural and harmonious place”. Sting has chosen to live in the beautiful countryside of Figline Valdarno, and buying an estate of over three hundred acres with lakes, vineyards and olive groves, he also decided to become a farmer. An entrepreneur that supports the genuineness of the products of his estate, the Tenuta Palagio: oil, honey and sausages of Cinta Senese and, soon, even wine. The wine label of the estate of Sting, will be presented next September. After so many environmentally responsible actions to praise, let’s see if he can also rock the wine world.
