San Gimignano, Opera, Classical Music and Ballet

san-ginignano-festivalOpera, classical music, ballet, cinema, theater and pop music are the protagonists on stage in San Gimignano from July 4th to August 30th for a summer full of cultural events. This is the eighth edition of “Dentro e fuori le mura. Dalla città per la città (Inside and Outside the City Walls. From town for the town). The towered city offers a bill of fifty events with performances by great artists of Italian music, the most famous operas, theater, ballet, and cinema with the most successful movies screened during the year.

Alongside pop music, this year the festival celebrates the partnership with the Accademia Musicale Chigiana di Siena with two major classical music events: Monday July 20th at 9,15PM will be held in Piazza delle Erbe the concert of the Orchestra della Toscana Giuliano Carmignola performing compositions by Haydn. On Wednesday July 29th at 9,15PM in Piazza delle Erbe Salvatore Accardo will direct the Orchestra della Toscana, which will perform compositions by Beethoven.

The 75th edition of outdoor opera concerts will see the IKO – Italy Konzert Opera bring on stage the Nabucco by Verdi in the extraordinary setting of Piazza Duomo on Tuesday August 4th at 9,15PM and L’elisir d’amore on Friday August 7th at 9,15PM. In addition, three opera concerts with free admission will be performed at the Centro di Avviamento al Teatro lirico di San Gimignano, on Thursday July 30th, 31st, and August 1st, in the Cortile del Palazzo Comunale, at 9,15PM.

The review of Theater and Dance offers the new productions of the Teatro Corsaro on the figure of Dino Campana “My Name is Dino and I am Electric” on Wednesday July 22nd, at 9,30PM in Piazza delle Erbe and the Compagnia Danza Moderna Mystral, directed Roberto Guicciardini with “The crazy dance of the Baccus Women” on Friday July 24th at 9,30PM in Piazza delle Erbe.

The Italian pop music singer Claudio Baglioni brings his Q.P.G.A. (Questo piccolo grande amore) tour devoted to the song that has consecrated him among the stars of Italian music. The concert will be held on August 3rd, at 9,30PM in Piazza Duomo. While on August 6th at 9,30PM in Piazza Duomo Lola Ponce and Giò di Tonno, the popular performers of Esmeralda and Quasimodo in the musical by Riccardo Cocciante “Notre Dame de Paris”, will perform for their 2009 live tour “Disperatamente Noi”.
