Personal Chef for Hire

personal-chefFinding a cook in Tuscany for your self catering accommodation may be a tough quest. Whether you want the chef for a special evening or for your everyday menus, you must arrange it with quite a long advance. If you leave it to the last minute you might end up with some improvised cook that asks way too much for the catering service. Here we have a suggestion for you, a highly recommended chef that makes great dishes with organic ingredients he chooses personally from local farmers.
Josef Bernhard Grosser’s passion for Italy and its cuisine began with a trip to Liguria in 1982. He was already well known in Germany as the long-time Vice President of the gastronomic association “Corps de Gourmets à la Brillat Savarin” and as the owner of the famous exclusive restaurant “Die Schnecke in Lehel” in Munich. Once in Italy, Josef ventured inland to explore Tuscany. He fell in love with San Donato in Poggio and bought a house in its vicinity, at Molinuzzo, where he started a cookery school in 1988. One of the first to promote organic food, he has vegetable gardens, orchards, chickens, sheep and pigs on his land, the “raw materials” for his recipes. After an absence of a few years, he returned to Chianti in 2002 and decided to put his art at the service of those who spend their holidays here. Josef goes directly to his clients’ kitchens, in villas and country houses, to cook his “revised” Tuscan dishes with the license to add some new flavors. His is a quest for quality and simplicity. His friends are the farmers who taught him to prune olive trees and the hunters from whom he buys game; he purchases all the ingredients personally. His studies in “Nutritional Sciences” at the University of Munich help him make the best choice of meat, vegetables, fruit and all the necessaries for the preparation of his succulent dishes.
He is of course also available for cooking lessons, so if you happen to want one for you or your guests, just try him out.
If you would like to contact him for hire and information, you can find him at Località Sant’Appiano, 16 in BarberinoVal d’Elsa Phone: 055 8075048 Cellphone 335 6601381 or 380 4597729 e-mail: chianticooking@interfree.it Website: www.chianticooking.com

We are a family of 15—6 children, 9 adults interested in hiring a cook for one or two meals to be prepared for us and be ready for us when we come back from days site-seeing. We are staying at a place just 8 km outside of Lucca, called Villa Ave Maria from June 27 to July 3, 2010.

To be clear we want a cook–not a chef-catered affair. We are on a limited budget, plus the four girl grandchildren and one boy age 6 are very picky eaters, and it would be wasteful to spend euros for an extravaganza.

If this is something your company does, please let me know by email

Hi Dan! Although I do not take care of such things, I will look for someone for you and put you in contact with them. Sounds good?

    Hi,
I’m doing some research for my grandparent who are planning a trip to the tuscan region in Late August-September 2010. It is just the two of them, but they are planning on having friends visit here and there. They would like to have a chef cook for them on an everyday basis. Neither of my grandparents are picky eaters and both speak Italian and would love the company of a friendly, outgoing chef. A house that we are looking at currently is located just outside of Siena, but they aren’t set on it. Is there anyone in the region /area that wouldn’t be too expensive that would be interested in the position?

If you could let me know that would be amazing! Thank you for your help!

Hi, I have asked around quite a bit, and received mixed responses. It seems many are already fully booked up for the summer. Your best bet is to ask the owner of the property you are renting to find someone local. Usually there are people in the area that have the passion of cooking traditional local dishes but are not professional chefs. Their cooking is usually excellent.
