This is the year of Galileo Galilei, and on the days from the 8th to the 10th of July 2009, in San Rossore near Pisa, will be held the meeting titled “Science powers development, Peace powers the world“, with a series of events, conferences, video screenings, think tanks, round-tables, and concerts.
During these intense three days the scientific course of our world will be taken into consideration from all possible aspects. Theologists, journalists, scientists of several branches, cosmonauts, military authorities, international guests on sustainable development, politicians, and many other experts on sociological and cultural matters will provide a fertile ground for discussion and learning on the dynamics involved with technological advancement and sustainable development in the world of today and the next 50 years.
July 8th will be the opening day with a concert by Avion Travel, that will entertain from 9,30PM with their pop-jazz music.
July 9th will start at 9,30AM with the official commencement meeting. This day will be entitled to “Scence, knowledge, consciousness”. The Medicine Nobel Prize Rita Levi Montalcini and astrophysicist Margherita Hack will be the first two big guests, although Dr. Montalcini will be present only by video, due to her considerable age. The day will be dense of appointments that one after another will end 5PM.
On July 10th the main theme will be “Science Serving Peace”, and will open with an homage to Darwin and Galileo and their sacrifice dedicated to the spreading of knowledge as means to gain freedom. The day will continue full of meetings and think tanks until 5PM, when the 2009 edition of this meeting series will end.
It is noteworthy that both days the lunch will be catered by Slow Food Toscana, always careful to provide the most genuine food based on the principles of ecological sustainability like organic farming and minimum food mileage.
