Today is the first day of the June 2nd long weekend. Thankfully this year’s Republic Day is on a Tuesday, giving the opportunity to the majority of workers to enjoy a half-week vacation, that many lucky ones have already started yesterday.
Many are the events organized throughout Tuscany for this 4-day weekend. Gastronomic and oenologic fairs where to taste unexpected flavors, live historical reenactments, visit exhibits, and assist to water sports competitions.

In Prato, from the 29th to the 30th of May, the Di Vini Profumi is ongoing in the cloister of San Francesco church. Here visitors will be guided through the famous pastry tradition of Prato and of its culinary tradition.
The Sagra dei Pici started on May 29 and will end on the 31st near Casciano dei Bagni in Celle sul Rigo. Getting to know this handmade fresh pasta is a must for Tuscany lovers, and you will have the choice between ragu (meat sauce), breadcrumbs sauce and with garlic and tomato, three very traditional Tuscan ways to serve pici pasta.
On the Elba Island in Marciana Marina from May 30 to the 31st the “Un Mare di Sapori” is ongoing. It is a fair developing from the city center up to the seashore where a long line of Italian gourmet food producers meet up to offer a greater knowledge of the Italian gastronomic landscape.
From May 30th to June 2nd in Fivazzano near Massa Carrara the Massa-Carrara Local Products Fair will be happening in the Augustinians Convent, a rare occasion to taste the typical dishes of this atypical Tuscan territory.
Again from May 30th to June 2nd in Lari near Pisa the Cherry Fair is the most awaited appointment of these lands. Cherries tasted in oh-so-many ways and lots of music, gourmet food and shows accompany this manifestation.
The capital of Chianina cow (aka the best meat for Tuscan t-bone steak tagliata), Bettolle near Siena, celebrates its white giants (the Chianina cow, that is) from May 30th to June 1st. Folk shows, meetings, food tasting, and photo shows are the chosen ways to celebrate the story and importance of this wonderful animal.
On June 2nd near Pisa those who love historical reenactments can enjoy the Antiche Repubbliche Marinare (Ancient Maritime Republics) Regatta that like every year will see the vessels from Genoa, Amalfi, Pisa and Venice racing head to head to win the historical trophy.
On June 1st Pisa also offers the “Black Night“. From 10PM until 4AM on Ponte di Mezzo the Astrophiliac Association of Pisa will guide the more curious ones through star observation. For the occasion all the lights of the area will be turned off and the sky will sparkle like centuries ago.
On the Costa d’Argento in Maremma from May 31st to June 2nd the 5th edition of the Trofeo dei Reali Presidi di Spagna will take place with three regatta days and a series of touristic and cultural exhibits on Maremma and Tuscany in general.
