Fun with Children in Tuscany

children-in-tuscanyI would like to talk about a family topic. Families usually want to travel to Tuscany with their children, but never seem to get around it and get going because they consider Tuscany a place aimed to adults. On the contrary, although Tuscany offers a great variety of activities, including many cultural ones for adults, it also is a fun place for the wee ones as it’s a region bursting with festivals and celebrations with many points of interest for children.

Most families that travel to Tuscany organize their holidays trying to reach the ideal balance between the immense cultural offer and fun entertainment for the little ones.
Most rural houses, hotels and villas in Tuscany provide guests with a swimming pool. As it often happens the whole morning or part of the day is spent sightseeing, while the rest of the day is dedicated to enjoying a refreshing swim in the pool, a true joy for all the family. Just as enjoyable are fields and gardens surrounding the accommodation. Those are ideal for children to have fun in a unique natural landscape.

Besides cultural sightseeing and day trips, there are parks to mention such as the Parco Pinocchio, a place which will shake up the curiosity and fascination of kids and adults alike. The park is set in Collodi, 10 km away from Montecatini Terme, and 15 km away from Lucca, while Pisa is 32 km away.
The unique Parco di Pinnochio was erected in the city where the author of the story, Carlo Lorenzini (aka Carlo Collodi) spent his early years. Do not expect the usual fun fair, but a mind refreshing fantasy trip through the famous Pinocchio tale through the most varied scenarios built by different artists, who express their personal interpretation of this classic story.
From March 1st to October 31st of each year the park opens with plenty of activities for children and adults: magic, story telling, puppet shows, pictures taken in Geppetto’s workshop and a wonderful exhibit with the attractions of the time when the story was written, all carefully restored with painstaking dedication.
A visit to the beautiful Pinocchio park and the nearby towns provides for a perfect opportunity to abandon oneself to the fantasy world we have so enjoyed thanks to the famous wooden toy.

Leaving Pinocchio, children can also enjoy the zoological park of Pistoia, one of the best of Tuscany. Here the the lynx and the Apennine wolf are preserved from extinction.

Florence with the Cascine Park also offers a green escape to those with children visiting the congested city of art. Here you will regenerate and relax in a safe place for your little ones.
The Uffizi in Florence each morning at 11:30 AM has a great workshop for English speaking children. Through crafting, children make their own toys. Meanwhile parents can enjoy the museum!

These are just a few highlights, but Tuscany literally bursts with activities and places that satisfy children and adults alike.
