Florence in Tuscany by Bike

As some may not know, Florence in Tuscany is crossed by one of the most (in)famous rivers of Tuscany, the Arno river. Therefore, as any city crossed by a river, Florence is mainly flat, and a great pleasure to be visited with a bike.

This might be strange if you have visited the city, as there are several bikes around on the streets, but the number of cars and the traffic is bewildering. This is due to the fact that many live out of Florence and only work in the city.

For this very reason the historical center is best visited with a bike, and to add more connectivity among the various sections of Florence the city has developed a total of 78 kilometers (49 miles) of biking trails, of which the last 11 kilometers will be added during the next few months so that the summer season will see the new biking trails in Florence completed.

The bicking trails will be added at the Cascine park, in via Mafalda di Savoia and on Viale Michelangelo for a total of 11 kilometers that will allow to visit the 27 monuments inside the park without ever stepping down the bike.
