The Etruscans were an ancient civilization who lived in Tuscany (you can hear the similarity in the words Tuscan and Etruscan, right?) and who were virtually wiped out by the Romans. Dionigi of Alicarnasso, the Greek historian, described the Etruscans as an ancient and unique people with no connection whatsoever, both linguistically and culturally, with any other people of the time. The word ‘Etruscan’ simply means the people that lived in the Etruria land between the 9th and 3rd century BC.
