Final Event for Musicastrada near Pisa

tuscany-musicastradaTonight in Pomaia is the final concert of Musicastrada, the 4 week-long series of concerts in the province of Pisa. The tradition of ‘one hundred violins’ is the greatest musical tradition still documented in the province of Reggio Emilia. Here, between the provinces of Reggio, Parma and Mantua, developed a musical movement that at the beginning of the Nineteenth century gave rise to the music that today is known as “smooth ball”. The Violins of Santa Vittoria reproduce this music after a long period of musical research, and keep this heritage alive proposing it to the world.
This year’s is the tenth edition of Musicastrada, that started in 2000 with just 4 concerts in the town of Pontedera, near Pisa. This year’s edition includes 25 concerts scattered all over the province of Pisa. The aim is to couple the love for music with that for a little discovered Tuscan territory, such as that around Pisa. Here tourism has not reached the hype as in other Tuscan localities, making even more enjoyable the suggestive landscapes of this musical itinerary. All locations are nearby Pisa, but all present very different characteristics that make each experience unique.
Musicastrada is not only music, but also photography and figurative arts. Since 2006 besides a photography contest calls in the area many photographers that expose their best shots throughout the year. Since 2008 photography has also become a way to document the events in a series of pictures that want to render the spirit of these concerts. Figurative arts come into play besides the stages, as light projections are cast on monuments to dress the historical context of these Tuscan towns with a new concept.
It is noteworthy that all concerts are always free admittance as the sponsorship is granted by private and public institutions.
