From June to October there are many exhibitions taking place in Tuscany, from Versilia to the Etruscan Coast and the main historic towns.
From July 4th to September 29th 2009 the Palace of Seravezza Mediceo, in Versilia, hosts a major exhibition on mezzadria (sharecropping) during the Ninteenth and Twentieth centuries. More than 100 paintings that make you relive the atmosphere of the farmers’ world. The Macchiaioli and Giovanni Fattori are the protagonists in this collection.
From June 24th to October 4th 2009 the Medieval town of Siena surprises with the exhibition “Machines! Tributes to Futurism”. An artistic journey where the golden paintings of the National Pinacoteca of Siena contrast with cars and vintage motorbikes. A tribute to the centenary of Futurism and Filippo Marinetti, the father of the artistic movement, which lived in Siena for an extended period of time.
From May 31st to September 27th 2009 the magical scenery of Maremma is the backdrop for the extraordinary exhibition “Joie de Vivre” devoted to Niki de Saint Phalle, the French-American artist who worked in the 60s during the pop-art period with her colorful female figures made of polyester. The exhibition will cross the entire province of Grosseto celebrating museums and historic buildings.
From June 14th to September 30th 2009 in Vinci at the Museo Ideale Leonardo you can admire the exhibit “Joconde”, with an itinerary that goes from the Mona Lisa to the naked Gioconda. An interesting opportunity to understand the mysteries of this female figure, made famous by the Florentine genius.
From May 30th to November 8th 2009 Volterra pays a tribute to the famous Flemish painter Pieter de Witte with the exhibition “Peter Candido: a Painter of the Sixteenth Century Between Volterra and Monaco” is located in the Palazzo dei Priori.
From June 14th to October 31st 2009 the Maremma territory also offers the exhibit “The Lords of Maremma – Etruscan elite between Populonia and the Vulcente”. At the archeological and art museum of the Maremma in Grosseto you will find over two hundred objects from archaeological sites in the area. The exhibits are paired with tours that give the opportunity to visit the sites where the objects were dug out.
From June 20th 2009 to January 6th 2010 Chianciano Terme hosts the exhibition “All the Souls of a Mummy. Life after death at the time of Sethy I”. This is a precious chance to relive the atmosphere of the ancient Egypt through a large number of objects borrowed from important collections and from the partial reconstruction of one of the most important tombs in the Valley of the Kings.
