Arezzo Museums: the Della Robbia Exposition

della-robbia-arezzoIn Arezzo from February 21st to June 7th, 2009 at the State Museum of Medieval and Modern Art is hosted a wonderful exposition of the Della Robbia family.

For those who don’t know the Della Robbia, this family had an enormous influence over the Renaissance art. For three generations, from the first decades of the 15th century to the second half of the 16th century,  the Della Robbia, a Florentine family, fathered the Renaissance with their artistic innovations.

Luca Della Robbia is the inventor, or better the discoverer, of the glossed ceramic technique that makes ceramics eternal and the founder of the workshop in Florence that through subsequent generations acquired a capital importance in Tuscany.

The aim of the exhibition is to focus on the mysterious origins of this new technique that revolutionized artistic ceramic creations, and discover the intertwining connections between this art, architecture, painting, and other figurative arts.

In addition to the Della Robbia art, other major exponents of the Renaissance are exhibited: Ghiberti, Donatello, Filippo Lippi, Andrea del Verrocchio, Leonardo, Ghirlandaio, and Domenico Veneziano are just a few of the Renaissance authors that you will be able to compare with the Della Robbia art.
